![]() ![]() So I do all my own minor to moderate auto/bike work, but stop at major rebuilds etc. My daily ride is an XL1200C and I like the bar and control set up on that. Probably with forward controls and lacking the flat bars that are popular now. So we have aggreed we want to split the difference and have a long low bike. I like the look of the old 70's style choppers with the high neck but my son does not. We want to stretch the bike and have rake, but not go up much. Build, modify or buy an entire chopper frame? Would you mind sharing your opinions on the different Harleys we could use a donor bike (we are set on HD). Although I'm not ruling out an Evo or other model.Īlso the Sportster seems to be by far the most common bike used for this, is this merely a price issue or is there some other reason Sportsters seem to be favored? ![]() We both agree we like the look and the idea of "old school" of the Shovelhead motor. So step 1b would be deciding exactly what kind of Harley to focus on. I live in Central Florida and at least around here there are Tons of them for sale under our $3K max price for the donor bike. So I guess step one is partially settled, we decided to go with a running (I don't want to spend all my time trying to get an engine to start) Harley Davidson. We don't really have the garage space for such a project, and all the types of cars he wants to build have been getting pricey in the last several years.Īs an alternative I suggested building a chopper, which he has gone for. My 15 YO son wanted to rebuild a classic car. I'm new to this sub, so I hope these kind of broad requests for help are not frowned upon. ![]()
